El Rei beach (portals
vells beach III)
The “Playa del Rei” (King’s beach – “Portals Vells” III) is nine kilometres from Magaluf and forms part of “Cala Portals Vells”, a sea inlet between the ends of the “Xisclet” and “s’Estaca,” which is divided into several “veins” which end in this sandy area, next to the “playa del Mago.”
This quiet, beautiful, fine-grained, white sand beach is small in size. A leafy pine grove with tall specimens surrounds this stretch of coastline that almost touches its crystalline waters, which tempt bathers. It should be noted that the left bank is sandy, whilst the right bank is made up of gently sloping rocks.
Nearby is the “Torre des Moro,” a defensive fortification built in 1580.
Access to the “Portals Vells” beach by road is easy by just following the road signs. You must pass Magaluf and continue in the direction of Son Ferrer. 1.5 km before reaching this town, you must follow the signs indicating the road to “Portals Vells.” The beach has free parking nearby. From here you will reach “Sa Caleta” on foot.
The marine and underwater conditions are suitable for anchoring a boat on this beach, open to east and southeast winds. The best area to anchor can be found at the exact point of separation between this beach and the neighbouring “El Mago,” where there seabed is sandy, with seaweed, at a depth of between four and five metres. “Port Adriano” is the closest marina to this beach.
